Science & Innovation 2012:
Driving Economic Growth
Welcome to GovNet's 9th Annual Science and Innovation Conference.
The Science and Innovation Conference and Exhibition has always been a crucial event in the calendar for the sector, bringing together key figures from the public sector, from academia and from industry, in order to discuss the crucial role of science, innovation and technology in driving growth.
With a significant amount of policy development over recent months, the conference will be more timely than ever. The Government recently launched the Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth which sets out plans and support to help foster science and innovation in the UK, help universities and businesses bring products to market, and ultimately drive growth. Alongside this, the Government has also launched the Strategy for UK Life Sciences, which looks to ensure the UK takes a bigger share of the global market for medical research, including investment to help start-up companies bridge the gap between medical discoveries and delivery of treatments to patients.
Fostering collaboration between Government, Universities, research councils, industry and the NHS is a vital part of the drive for growth, and this conference will be a key meeting place for all of those involved in the agenda.
We look forward to welcoming you.
George Freeman MP, Government advisor on Life Sciences and PPS to Minister for Climate Change
